5 Social Media Tip for 2017

With the start of 2017, the number of companies promoting their products and services through social media just keeps increasing. As a digital marketing agency based in London and Asia, we’ve had a lot of companies constantly ask why their social media brand did not do well in 2016. So to start the new year, here are 5 social media tips to help your brand for 2017.

1. Short and Simple.

The world today is very fast paced, and the same could be said about social media. With millions of new posts per day,  you need to ensure your audience can read your message within a few seconds. Studies have shown that people engage with your content more if you have less copy. This is due to your audience reading all the information within seconds. So we advise to keep your copy short, but straight to the point!

2. Use the right Visual Content

With so much noise on social media, it might be hard to catch your customer’s attention, so it’s important to use visual content that would. However, this doesn’t mean that you should just post any random visual content. It’s important to make sure the image or video you use is related to what you are trying to promote. Using the wrong visual content could result in confusing your audience and making them not understanding the message you are trying to send.

3. Update your profiles

Your social media profiles are your online brand ambassadors. It is important to make sure that each and every social media platform you use has the same look. By doing so, your customers can easily identify your brand across different social media platforms. It’s also important that you use the right images and sizes for your page display picture and cover photo. Your social media display picture should be your brand logo and your cover photo should relate to any products or services you are trying to promote at the time.

4. PLAN PLAN PLAN!

You wouldn’t build a house without a plan, nor bake a cake without preparing the right ingredients. The same rule applies to social media marketing. Whenever you start promoting on social media, it helps to plan ahead so that you can establish if your social media goals are being met. If you are unsure how to create a social media plan, Hootsuite has a lot of advice on how to.

5. Timing is Money!

You’ve heard the phrase “time is money”? Well, our team likes to say “timing is money”. It’s important to consider when’s the right time to post your content as it can affect the amount of customers seeing your post. There is no point of promoting if your customers won’t see your message.

Here’s an example, imagine you own a restaurant and you want to promote your breakfast menu. You wouldn’t promote your breakfast menu during lunch time as your target audience would want to eat something related to lunch (not unless they missed breakfast or they really want breakfast). So the best times would be between 7am – 10am, before your audience goes to work. You could also promote during the evening, so that subliminally, you are telling your customers to eat breakfast in your restaurant the next day.
